The Dedmon Center, a state-of-the-art recreational and convocation complex, opened in 1981. The center was only the tenth permanent structure with an air-supported fabric roof built in the United States, and its superb design and versatility have made it an eye-popping addition to campus. More than that, it opened a new era for all three sports interests on campus - intercollegiate competition, intramural and individual recreation.
The complex features several adjoining facilities, including intramural soccer, football and softball fields and intercollegiate fields and courts for baseball, softball, field hockey and tennis. In addition Patrick D. Cupp Stadium adds a intercollegiate soccer and track and field complex.

The Center itself features a 1/6-mile indoor jogging track; five racquetball courts; a weight-training room with Nautilus and Universal equipment; spacious locker rooms; several team rooms; showers and steam-rooms; the main arena featuring a main basketball floor and a secondary volleyball arena for intercollegiate competition and four recreational courts for basketball or volleyball.
One of the more amazing things about the Dedmon Center is its versatility. The arena area can be customized to the current needs, including setting up a 5,000-seat arena for basketball or a 1,000-seat arena for volleyball. The arena is also used for concerts, graduation and other large university events.
